Our History
National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) was formally established on the 30th November, 1999 in Lagos under Part C of Decree 1 of 1990.
Until its establishment there was no professional freight forwarders’ organisation recognized by Nigeria government as representing all freight forwarding companies operating in the country.
Upon establishment, NAGAFF became the only umbrella body for freight forwarders in Nigeria and Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam became the pioneer President for 6years, upholding with tenacity the vision of liberating freight forwarding practice in Nigeria.
Since then, NAGAFF has developed significantly under the pilotage of seasoned leaders, from Dr Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam who doubles as the Founder and pioneer president, to late Fwdr. Usman Sanusi of blessed memory, down to Dr Eugene Nweke, to late Fwdr. Oluwole Adeyemi of blessed memory and the incumbent president, His Excellency, High Chief Tochukwu Emmanuel Ezisi (RFF).
NAGAFF has continued to wax strong both in numerical strength and National spread with over 10,000 members nationwide. NAGAFF members are professional freight forwarders providing shipping and logistics services of all kinds relating to the carriage, consolidation, warehousing, storage, handling, packing and distribution of goods, as well as ancillary and advisory services including, but not limited to Customs and fiscal matters, declaration of the goods for official purposes and procuring payment and documents relating to the goods.
Over the years:
•NAGAFF HAS GROWN IN NUMERICAL STRENGTH WITH OVER 10,000 MEMBERS NATIONWIDE
NAGAFF started with a meagre number of persons and has now grown in numerical strength to over 10,000 registered members in her data base in line with my administration commitment to grow the membership strengthen.
•NAGAFF HAS SUSTAINED PROFESSIONAL FREIGHT FORWARDING PRACTICE FOR 24 YEARS AND COUNTING.
NAGAFF has spread virally across all customs stations nationwide, providing professional freight forwarding services that has been sustained for 24 years without any division among us.
• NAGAFF HAS INCREASED CUSTOMS REVENUE THROUGH DUTY AND EXCISE PAYMENT ON IMPORT AND EXPORT TRADE TRANSACTIONS SINCE INCEPTION.
Our primary responsibility is to help customs collect adequate revenue in line with statutory provisions of the law. This is what NAGAFF members have successfully done for the past 24 years to the tune of multi trillion naira since inception in 1999.
•NAGAFF HAS SOLIDIFIED TIES BETWEEN CUSTOMS AND FREIGHT FORWARDERS THROUGH CONTINUOUS ENGAGEMENT AND DIALOGUE WITH THE NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE (NCS).
NAGAFF has spearheaded major ties and cordiality with men of the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) through constant dialogue and constructive engagements.
•NAGAFF HAS CONTRIBUTED SIGNIFICANTLY TO NIGERIA’S GDP BY FACILITATING CUSTOMS REVENUE COLLECTION THROUGH RESPONSIBLE FREIGHT FORWARDING SERVICES.
Over the years, NAGAFF has immensely contributed to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through adequate payment of duties, levies and Practitioner Operating Fees (POF) accrued to the federal government of Nigeria.
•NAGAFF HAS ENHANCED GROWTH IN NATIONAL ECONOMY BY FACILITATION OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE FLOWS THROUGH PORTS ACROSS THE NATION.
NAGAFF trade facilitation and 100% compliance units were designed to enhance growth in national economy by checking anti-trade facilitation activities at the port.
•NAGAFF HAS BECOME THE FOREMOST FREIGHT FORWARDING ASSOCIATION WITH SIGNIFICANT PHYSICAL PRESENCE AT ALL THE SEAPORTS, AIRPORTS, LAND BOARDER STATIONS AND INLAND BONDED TERMINALS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
NAGAFF has physical presence in all the boarder station nationwide with a growing numerical membership capacity.
•NAGAFF HAS ESTABLISHED AN ACCREDITED ACADEMY, WHERE FREIGHT FORWARDERS ARE TRAINED AND AWARDED WITH A DIPLOMA CERTIFICATE IN PROFESSIONAL FREIGHT FORWARDING.
One of the core visions of the association is for all freight forwarders to receive professional training. This vision led to the establishment of NAGAFF Academy which has graduated over 2000 students already.
•NAGAFF HAS IMPROVED HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AND WORKFORCE BY PROVIDING FORMAL EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL TRAININGS FOR THE TEEMING FREIGHT FORWARDING COMMUNITY.
A lot of members have upskilled themselves through the NAGAFF Academy since inception. This upskilling contributes to the human capacity building of the Nigerian workforce.

To vigorously pursue the development of the freight forwarding sub sector of the economy through capacity building and enthronement of professionalism in freight forwarding practice in the sub region.

OUR OBJECTIVES
Our objective is to be the all-encompassing voice for Freight Forwarders and Logistics Service providers, particularly in the field of:
•Freight Forwarding
•Custom Brokerage
•Warehousing
•Haulage
•Shipping Agency
With that voice, we continuously represent the interest of all logistics players in the ever changing governmental and business conditions.
In the interest of elevating the status of logistics services to higher professional feats, NAGAFF will unceasingly conduct and organize Internationally Certified professional training courses. The courses we orchestrate are in collaboration with International Bodies such as: –
•International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA)
•International Air Transport Association (IATA)
•International Maritime Organization (IMO)
•World Trade Organisation (WTO)
We also pursue the objective of providing a stage for local logistics service providers in NAGAFF to discuss current matters that affects the industry, channelling those matters in a structured way to the relevant bodies and stakeholders.
As a collective voice, we also seek to establish and evolve Code of Conducts among members, that ultimately will elevate ethical and relevant business practices amongst our peers.
Under our umbrella, NAGAFF will nurture and grow new-comers into the industry by providing actionable advices and pragmatic information.
